Gradually, the masks changed, and in 2016 they became about adult masks. I was reminded of a David Crosby song that seemed (and seems) to fit our current political climate as easily as it fit that of the 1970s when it was first sung:
“I wonder who they are, the men who really run this land, and I wonder why they run it with such a thoughtless hand. What are their names and on what streets do they live? I’d like to ride right over this afternoon and give them a piece of my mind for the peace of mankind. Peace is not an awful lot to ask.”How many of us see through our double deceivers, masks wearing masks? It’s hard to tell just from watching political ads. These days I’m glad I’m an old woman, not subject to old men deciding what women can and can’t do with their bodies. Perhaps if they openly wear money masks, I could tell who is selling us out for campaign contributions or trips on yachts. Will the money people have the last word?
